The first time all the
Seekers were almost united in one organization was in the early 18th
century, when the European-based Seeker groups decided to elect a sole leader,
Helmuth Vaanders. What followed was a period of twenty years when all other
Seekers either joined the new ‘Defenders of Humanity,’ or were declared ‘sympathizers’
and hunted down. The death of Helmuth
brought on a succession crisis that splintered the Defenders and nullified the
contracts against the sympathizers.

Alliance, George Lynde
